GERMANY/FRANCE. Attacks against Christians and churches are getting more attention, perhaps because there’s a pattern one can see all over Europe.
The watchdog organisation Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe noted that 30 different incidents against Christians took place between April 1st and June 10th in Germany alone. Many of the attacks were different forms of vandalism and a third involved theft, mainly donation boxes.
One example is the Lutheran Nikolaikirche in Germany where the hymnbook and bible on the altar were set on fire. The perpetraitors also left feaces by the churchs entrance and outside on a bench. Another one is in Mannheim where a church got trashed on April 29th causing damage worth $11 285.
In France there have been about three attacks against Christians every day for the last three years. A report from Central Criminal Intelligence Service (SCRC) of the gendarmerie showed that between 2016 to 2018 there have been thousands of cases of church vandalism. The peak was in 2017 as there were 1 045 cases then.
