BURKINA FASO. On Sunday 28 there was an attack on a church in the city Silgadji.
The service was had just ended and the attack came as people were leaving the church. The perpetraitors came on motorbikes and fired into the air before they started to shoot people. Six persons, including the pastor, were killed. Two others is said to be missing. This was the first attack on a church in the country.
The country haven’t had these kind of problems before, but groups in Mali started to enter Burkina Faso in 2015. Mali is known for their Islamist groups who have this as their modus operandi. Their goal is to extend their territories of the Sahel. Muslims have also been attacked, which doesn’t mean that the perpetraitors isn’t Muslims, but that they doesn’t see the others a true Muslims. 55-60% in Burkina Faso is Muslim, 20-25% are Christian while the rest follow indigenous religions.
Several groups are active in the area, for example Ansarul Islam, the Group to Support Islam and Muslims (GSIM), groups linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS). The attacks all over the country have left about a million persons displaced and Burkina Faso is facing a humanitarian crisis. The Islamists strategy of destabilizing the country is unfortunately working.
