NORWAY This Thursday, January 17, a 20-year old man stabbed a woman in her back in a store in Oslo. It was first thought to be a robbery, but now it’s investigated as a terror crime.

The man is a Russian citizen and come from the small republic Bashkortostan and he got a new passport recently. He came to Oslo through Sweden where he only spent a couple of hours on Thursday. Then he bought a knife and targeted a random woman in a store. Witnesses say that he was calm and collected when he walked towards her. He held the knife with both hands and when he tried to stab her a second time he slipped. Then he tried to stab the cashier who managed to fend him off. The attacker was arrested shortly after.

The man couldn’t explain why he choose Norway, but my theory is that it could be linked to the media attention from the murders of Maren and Louisa. He has said that he wanted to kill several people and that he was angry at entitled Europeans. He has also mentioned that it’s because Christianity is a sin. He described his actions as a terrorism. A forensic phyciatric evaluation will be done for four weeks to make sure that he isn’t suffering from mental illness. I doubt that the Norweigans are so naive that they actually belive that this wasn’t caused by Islam, but I guess they have to rule it out.

(Remember) when your Lord inspired the angels, “Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes.”

Quran 8:12

He doesn’t seem to have any partners and haven’t said that he’s loyal to any terror organisations. He also said he hasn’t had any contact with anyone in Norway. But I don’t doubt for a second that they will find stuff online that will link him to Islamic groups and show that he was inspired by them. A good thing is that the police doesn’t believe that there is a risk of other attacks.

Journalist Magnus Sandelin and terror researcher Magnus Ranstorp were in Oslo to give a talk on the Swedish jihadistic network and commented that the mans pattern is typical of the lone attacker who use simple means. But why Norway? Central Asian and Russian Islamistic networks are a relatively new occurence here and that the ma ended up in Norway can be caused by a spillover effect from Sweden. There’s a lot of investigation to be done to get to the bottom of this.

The woman is 25-years old and a big blood vessle to her heart was damaged by the attack. She has survived surgery and have been put in a come while she recovers. Let us keep her in our prayers!
