USA. It have been interesting to follow the debate around the US border. Should there be a wall built or should the borders be open for everybody?
This Saturday six Bangladeshi men were taken into custody by the Texas Border Patrol as they were crossing the border illegally from Mexico. Two of them nearly drowned in the Rio Grande River, but were saved by the agents. The had paid about $27,000 each to be taken into the country by cartel-connected human smugglers. The official religion in Bangladesh is Sunni Islam and terror attacks are very likely to take place there. Earlier attacks have been carried out by groups connected to Al-Qaida and ISIS.
I don’t think that it’s unreasonable to screen those who enter countries. On the contrary, it’s the only sane way to go about this with the risk of terrorists and welfare-tourists who want to get in. You just have to know who they are. Where ever they want to live they have to follow the rules like everybody else. That they aren’t doing that makes them more suspicious.
Well, I have my opinion clear (Build that wall!) and sometimes when I listen to those who diminish the migrant caravan I wonder if they are bit stupid. Because it’s not only about this group of migrants. If they are let in and given welfare the next caravan will be standing by the border in a heartbeat wanting the same treatment. You can just look at how that strategy have worked in Europe.
