NIGERIA. On February 19 110 girls were abducted by Boko Haram from their boarding school. One of them is Leah Sharibu, who has turned 15-year old during her captivity. She was also was the only Christian of the group of schoolgirls.
On March 21 104 of the girls were released and Leah was offered freedom too if she converted to Islam, but Leah refused. Since 5 girls have died during the captivity it means that she is the only one left. She sent a message to her mother with a friend:
My mother you should not be disturbed. I know it is not easy missing me, but I want to assure you that I am fine where I am… I am confident that one day I shall see your face again. If not here, then there at the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As a proof that she’s still alive a 35 second soundclip has been released together with a newly taken photo that you can see above. She speaks in Hausa, but it has been translated:
I am Leah Sharibu, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get me out of my current situation. I also plead to the members of the public to help my mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out of my predicament. I am begging you to treat me with compassion, I am calling on the government, particularly, the president to pity me and get me out of this serious situation. Thank you.
The Nigerian government have promised to help her and to pressure them an international campaign have started. Sign the petition, use the hashtag #freeleah and spread the word!
